Hope you’ve got a pool: Triple-digit heat is returning to Sacramento this weekend

Another hot weekend is ahead for Northern California, with triple digits likely in Sacramento for the first time since June.

Afternoon highs should hit 100 degrees Friday and Saturday, peak near 103 on Sunday and return to around 100 next Monday and Tuesday, according to the latest National Weather Service forecasts. Temperatures will be similar across the Sacramento Valley.

That’s roughly 10 degrees above average, but the hot streak won’t threaten any all-time records for California’s capital. Sunday’s date, July 12, hit 109 degrees in 1990. The next two calendar dates, July 13-14, reached a scorching 114 in 1972.

Hopefully, just reading the number “114” made you feel better about the incoming 103-degree heat. Sacramento had been in the much-more-reasonable low 90s earlier this week, after getting up to 98 degrees on July 4.

The NWS main forecast station at Sacramento Executive Airport reached 98 on Thursday, but downtown Sacramento got up to 101 degrees.

The foothills will reach highs in the 90s this weekend, and South Lake Tahoe will be in the mid-80s, according to the latest forecasts.
