Weak storm will bring light rain and snow to Northern California. When will it start?
A smidgen of rain is possible later this week, but Sacramento will continue to see a mostly dry November with cool-to-mild temperatures.
The best shot at showers will be between Thursday night and Friday morning, according to National Weather Service forecasts, which as of Tuesday only showed each day with about a 20% chance. The NWS Sacramento office in a tweet said the capital region will probably only get a few hundredths of an inch.
Daytime high temperatures the rest of this week and into the weekend will hover near the low 60s, with nighttime lows dropping as low as 43, both seasonally normal. Thursday and Friday are expected to be cloudy, but Saturday and Sunday should be sunny.
Wind gusts around 20 mph are possible early Wednesday, the weather service says.
Any snow in the mountains?
A weak storm could bring an inch or two of snow at elevations near 6,500 feet Thursday and early Friday, along with gusts above 50 mph near Sierra ridges. Drivers heading through the mountains the weekend before Thanksgiving should prepare for light to moderate travel impacts.
Highs near South Lake Tahoe are anticipated to stay around 50 degrees.
Heavenly and Northstar resorts had to delay their season openers, originally planned for this Friday, due to the warm weather. New opening dates have yet to be announced.
