Soar over the snowy Sierra mountains in this video as weaker storm moves through area

A new drone video shows the remarkable snowy landscape at Donner Summit off Interstate 80 as a weak winter storm moves across Northern California on Friday, with possible isolated thunderstorms in the northern Sacramento Valley, according to the National Weather Service.

Snow had started to fall at Donner Pass as of 9 a.m. Three to four inches of snow is expected.

Be prepared for slick roads, traffic delays, and mountain chain controls,” NWS Sacramento posted on its Facebook page. Give yourself extra time to reach your destination!”

Around Sacramento, residents should see around a tenth of an inch of rain, according to NWS forecasts. Some sunshine should come into the picture for Saturday.

The video of the recent snow was taken by John Hannon with Sacramento Valley Water. The central Sierra Nevada mountains saw the snowiest December on record with more than 193.7 inches — more than 16 feet — by December 28, 2021, according to the UC Berkeley Central Sierra Snow Lab.
