Gusty winds to hit Northern California, including mountains. Here’s when they’ll peak
Gusty winds are expected Friday and Saturday across various parts of Northern California including the Sacramento Valley, Bay Area and Sierra Nevada mountains, forecasts show.
Winds could gust up to as high as 40 mph in the valley and between 50 mph and 70 mph in parts of the Sierra, and possibly stronger at higher peaks, the National Weather Service said. Winds may also be strong in the North Bay area.
The gusts could cause power outages from downed tree limbs, according to the weather service, and could also affect mountain recreation such as skiing or snowboarding.
The weather service has a wind advisory in place from 7 a.m. Friday through noon Saturday for numerous counties around the valley, mountains and Bay Area. Officials have also issued a high wind warning for a stretch of the southern Sierra, along eastern portions of Tuolumne, Mariposa, Madera and Fresno counties.
The heaviest gusts are expected Friday afternoon or evening.
Forecasts show winds could peak around 37 mph Friday in the capital city and 31 mph Saturday before calming Saturday night.
High temperatures in Sacramento will cool slightly from the mid-60s Friday and Saturday to around 60 degrees Sunday and Monday. Overnight lows could dip to around 37 degrees, according to the weather service.
