Triple-digit heat and wind return to Sacramento this week, bringing fire weather concerns
Triple-digit temperatures will return to the Sacramento region this week, prompting a heat advisory and fire concerns, according to the National Weather Service.
After a temperate weekend, the Sacramento area can anticipate a heat wave Tuesday into Wednesday. Temperatures in the valley may reach up to 108 degrees, especially in areas northwest of Sacramento County, according to the weather service.
Downtown Sacramento is expected to see temperatures at around 102 and 103 Tuesday and Wednesday.
The heat advisory takes effect at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
“Widespread moderate heat risk is expected with areas of major heat risk in foothill locations with warm overnight lows,” the weather service wrote in a social media post Monday. “Avoid outdoor activities during the hottest hours of the day and stay hydrated!”
The weather service also said there would be elevated fire weather concern Tuesday and Wednesday, as breezy weather combines with low relative humidity. The Sacramento area will see gusts around 20 to 30 mph..
Residents are asked to avoid using tools that create sparks, and to obey all local burn bans.
Sacramento County said that it would open three cooling centers Tuesday. They will be available for use through Monday, June 27.
The centers will be located at 1725 28th Street and 2450 Florin Road in Sacramento, and 5747 Watt Avenue in North Highlands
