Northern California weather update: Region braces for more rain, snow and frost
It’s time to dust off your winter gear because fog, rain, wind, frost and snow is in Northern California’s forecast.
The National Weather Service predicts a “strong winter storm” to affect mountain travel Sunday into early next week with chances of rain showers extending after the snow. Snow will mostly fall in the Sierra Nevada, said meteorologist Eric Kurth with the National Weather Service, extending into the southern Cascades and throughout the northern coastal mountains.
The mountains could receive up to five inches of rain and “several feet of snow,” while the foothills are forecast to get up to three inches of rain.
In Sacramento, a frost advisory will go into into effect 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Friday. Residents should expect to use there windshield wipers starting Saturday up to at least Wednesday as rain makes its way into the area.
More than an inch of rain is expected to fall in Sacramento over the next several days, Kurth said. Weak rain is forecast to fall Saturday and Sunday, with stronger rain predicted to fall Sunday afternoon into Tuesday night.
“Anybody planning to travel through the mountains should be aware that it’s early November but it looks like a winter storm, travel could be difficult.”
