Mandatory evacuations now in place for south Sacramento County; warnings in El Dorado County

The Sacramento County Office of Emergency Services has issued an evacuation order for residents of the Wilton area along the Cosumnes River ahead of the next winter storm, which is expected to bring more rain and flooding to the south Sacramento County area.

Authorities elevated the advisory to a mandatory evacuation just after 6 p.m. Officials have set up an evacuation center at the Sacramento Asian Sports Foundation, 9040 High Tech Court, Elk Grove.

“Flooding is imminent,” authorities said in elevating the evacuation. “Out of an abundance of caution, residents must leave now before roads become impassable.”

Emergency officials said rising water are likely to spill over onto the nearest roadways and cut off access to leave the area as the storm hits the area on Monday and Tuesday. During the New Year’s Eve storm, exit routes flooded quickly for residents leaving Wilton after several private levees broke and the Cosumnes reached flood stage.

The boundaries for the evacuation order are:

  • North: Jackson Road (Highway 16)
  • East: Grant Line Road, south to Bond Road, south to Highway 99
  • South: Arno Road, west to Alta Mesa Road, south to Twin Cities Road, west to Clay Station Road
  • West: Clay Station Road, north about 4 miles, then northwest to Jackson Road
Sacramento County’s Office of Emergency Service issued an evacuation warning to residents living around the Wilton area on Sunday. Authorities are concerned the area around the Cosumnes River could flood for a second time since the New Year’s Eve storm.
