Where could Sacramento County flood? This interactive map shows risk areas

After an exceptionally dry year, Sacramento has recorded 13 consecutive days of rain — and counting — prompting flood watches across the region.

An atmospheric river brought enough water with it to flood Highway 99 on New Year’s Day as the Cosumnes River broke through its levees.

Raining all but one day since Dec. 26, both December and January surpassed their normal precipitation. Just 10 days into the year, the capital city has recorded at least 4.5 inches of rain. As rain is forecast into next week, a reader recently asked The Bee: Where is the flood risk?

Where Sacramento County could flood

This map shows the 100-year floodplain in Sacramento County as determined by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Areas in blue are considered at high risk for flooding, with a 1% chance of flooding annually and a 26% of flooding over the 30-year life of a mortgage. Properties in these areas are required by mortgage lenders to carry flood insurance. Use the magnifying glass to search for your address, or zoom in to see your neighborhood more closely. Toggle the basemap to see satellite imagery of the region.
