Rain and snow could return to Sacramento and Tahoe this weekend. What are the chances?
Rain isn’t completely out of the forecast — yet.
Light showers are predicted overnight Friday in the valley, foothills and the Sierra, said meteorologist Katrina Hand with National Weather Service in Sacramento.
“A slight chance for some really light showers” is predicted for the Sacramento area, she said.
The Friday night weather forecast points to a 15% chance of showers in the valley, and a 30% chance of showers for the Sierra and foothills.
Elevations above 5,000 feet could receive one to two inches of snow, Hand said.
High winds are predicted Saturday into Sunday, after the rainy system moves through. Winds can reach up to 50 miles per hour in the Sierra over the weekend, according to the weather service.
The Sacramento area is looking at “15 to 25 mile per hour winds, but not quite as strong as other parts of the valley,” Hand said.
Temperatures will dip to 38 degrees on Sunday night, according to the weather service forecast, with highs reaching 66 degrees that same day.
Daytime temperatures in Sacramento will remain in the 60s.
“If you’re traveling to the mountains, Friday or coming back early Saturday, just be aware of the weather,” Hand said. “There can be some slick roads and maybe minor travel delays with that snow.”
Forecast predicts temperatures to dip 15 degrees on Saturday night in South Lake Tahoe, according to the weather service forecast. Temperature highs will reach 49 degrees Friday.
