Video: Rip alongside U.S. Ski Team pros in heavy snow ahead of Lake Tahoe race

Palisades Tahoe announced Thursday the ski resort received a total of 18 inches of new snow in the past 24 hours, bringing the season snowfall there to 413 inches.

That means the Lake Tahoe area ski resort surpassed its annual average snowfall of 400 inches, and hit the highest season-to-date measurement in the past three seasons.

More snow is expected through Friday.

In the middle of the snowstorms, Palisades Tahoe is preparing ski runs for the Stifel Palisades Tahoe Cup this weekend, Feb. 24-26, 2023.

The slalom and giant slalom event is one of the stops on the Audi FIS Ski World Cup tour. Palisades Tahoe’s mountain operations team was undergoing a massive effort to get the course ready for skiers and fans, video shows.

The mountain has to pass “snow control” ahead of the races to ensure course quality for the racers, a Palisades Tahoe representative said.

Palisades Tahoe is familiar with international ski competition, ever since the venue hosted the 1960 Winter Olympics. The Tahoe Cup men’s slalom and giant slalom races will take place on Dog Leg and Red Dog Face runs.
