80-year-old woman killed after porch collapsed in snow in Placer County, authorities say

An 80-year-old Foresthill woman died after the porch of her home collapsed Tuesday due to snow, authorities said.

Coroner’s officials identified the victim as Lois Barton, Placer County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Angela Musallam said.

The death happened at Barton’s home on Clear Creek Court in Foresthill, Musallam said.

No other details on the circumstances of Barton’s death were immediately available.

The death was also reported Wednesday morning in a bulletin from the National Weather Service’s Sacramento office, which said the incident happened around 1 p.m. Tuesday.

“An 80-year-old woman was killed in Foresthill when a porch collapsed due to heavy snow,” the bulletin read. “A trained weather spotter reported 4 feet of snow in Foresthill.”
