Rain should relent this week in Sacramento region, but how long will sunny skies last?

Sacramento and the surrounding region likely will see another round of rain this week, after the latest storm brought more heavy snow Sunday in the Sierra.

Rain showers and a possible thunderstorm are expected Monday through Wednesday in the Sacramento Valley, according to the National Weather Service. But Sacramento-area residents will not see heavy rain as they did over the weekend.

After a chance of rain Wednesday, the Thursday forecast calls for mostly sunny skies. Showers are likely to resume into next weekend, according to the weather service.

Highs will remain in the lower 50s, with lows the upper 30s.

Snow levels in the Sierra have continued to rise, preventing travelers from moving in and out of the mountains.

Placer County received up to 8 feet of snow last week and could be hit with more in the coming days.

As people try to recover from storm-related damage, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office and PG&E over the weekend urged residents to not cut power lines themselves because of the risk of severe injury and possibly death.

El Dorado County issued a similar warning Saturday. “For safety’s sake, always assume that a fallen power line is live.”
