Enjoy the cool weather while it lasts. Here’s when hot temps will return to Sacramento
All good things must come to an end.
After nearly a month of unseasonably cool weather, Sacramento will end June on a hot note, with temperatures set to rise close to 100 degrees toward the end of the new week.
Weekend highs around 82 degrees will give way to highs in the upper 80s and low 90s by midweek, according to the National Weather Service. By Friday, highs will hover around 98 degrees.
The return of hot temps coincides with the retreat of a low-pressure system that blew in from the coast and settled over the Valley for the past week or so, according to NWS Meteorologist Sara Purdue. The cooling effect resulted in Sacramento’s average temperature this month running about 3.5 degrees cooler than previous years.
The system will start moving out of the Sacramento area on Wednesday and be gone by Thursday.
Sacramentans should take “all the usual precautions” to stay safe in the heat, Purdue told The Bee. Those include staying hydrated at all times and avoiding outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day, usually around 4 p.m.
