‘Brief funnel clouds’ and gusty winds possible in Yolo and Solano counties
Update: This special weather statement has since expired.
A special weather statement Monday afternoon from the National Weather Service in Sacramento warns that strong thunderstorms are moving through parts of Yolo and Solano counties.
As of 4:07 p.m., radar showed storms forming along a line from Winters to Vacaville to near Suisun City, moving northeast at about 30 mph, according to the weather service. Forecasters said the storms could bring wind gusts up to 40 mph and brief, weak funnel clouds.
“Conditions are favorable for the development of weak, brief funnel clouds,” the weather service in its alert. “This type of funnel cloud is harmless, but on rare occasions they can briefly touch down, producing wind gusts over 50 mph. If a funnel cloud is spotted move indoors and report your sighting to the National Weather Service.”
Communities that could see impacts include Fairfield, Vacaville, Davis, Woodland, Dixon, Winters, Elmira and Yolo, along with the Yolo County Airport.
The advisory remains in effect until 4:30 p.m.
This comes as a cold, early-season storm rakes across Northern California with up to an inch of rain in the Valley and heavy Sierra snow through early Wednesday.
