Beach hazards statement in place for San Francisco County from Sunday to Wednesday

The NWS San Francisco CA released a beach hazards statement at 11:55 a.m. on Friday valid from Sunday 3 a.m. until Wednesday 3 a.m. for San Francisco County.

"Increased risk of sneaker waves and strong rip currents expected," describes the NWS. "At the San Francisco tidal gauge, high tide is expected to be 1.7 ft above normal (7.6 ft MLLW) at 9:34 p.m. on Friday the 12th, 1.9 ft above normal (7.8 ft MLLW) at 10:20 p.m. on Saturday the 13th, 2.0 ft above normal (7.8 ft MLLW) at 11:10 p.m. on Sunday the 14th, 1.9 ft above normal (7.8 ft MLLW) at 12:02 a.m. on Tuesday the 16th, and 1.6 ft above normal (7.4 ft MLLW) at 12:56 a.m. on Wednesday the 17th. High tide varies up to 90 minutes earlier or later along the Pacific Coast and through the San Francisco Bay, respectively."

"Flooding of lots, parks, and roads with only isolated road closures expected. Dangerous conditions are forecast along the shoreline. Hazards include sneaker waves, strong rip currents, and large breaking waves," says the NWS. "If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property. Stay off of jetties, piers, rocks, and other waterside infrastructure. Remain out of the water to avoid hazardous surf and NEVER turn your back on the ocean."

This statement is in effect until Wednesday at 3 a.m.
