Lake wind advisory affecting Lake Tahoe Friday and Saturday - gusts may reach 40 mph

At 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday, the NWS Reno NV released a lake wind advisory valid from Friday 11 a.m. until Saturday 2 a.m. for Lake Tahoe.

The NWS informs, "Southwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph for Lake Tahoe, Donner Lake, and Prosser and Boca reservoirs. Wave heights 1 to 3 feet on Lake Tahoe."

"Small boats, kayaks and paddle boards will be prone to capsizing and should remain off lake waters until conditions improve," states the NWS. "Check lake conditions before heading out and be prepared for a sudden increase in winds and wave heights. Consider postponing boating activities on the lake until a day with less wind."

This advisory is in effect until Saturday at 2 a.m.
