Rain to hit Sacramento — and last. What to know as Northern California braces for storm

As a winter storm is expected to pummel Northern California, the capital city can expect a load of rain over the weekend into next week.

Sacramento has a 50% to 80% chance of showers, mainly after 4 a.m., Sunday and a 90% chance of showers throughout Sunday, according to the National Weather Service Sacramento Office.

The region is expected to endure a 100% chance of precipitation Monday with likely showers near the end of next week. The region can expect the hardest rainfall Sunday to Monday night.

According to the NWS, the Sacramento area is expected to see 3 to 4 inches of rain between Sunday and Tuesday. The region may also see gusts approach 30 mph Sunday, forecasts show.

Drivers should expect moderate to heavy rain, longer commute times, ponding water and roadway flooding due to clogged drains.
