First day of summer in Sacramento heralds start of hot week
High pressure is building over Sacramento on the first day of summer, a sure sign of a hot week to come.
The high temperature on Sunday was a toasty 94 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures are forecast to warm up over the next several days, but remain below record levels.
The hottest days are expected to be Tuesday and Wednesday when temperatures are forecast to hover at or near 100 degrees. The high on Monday in Sacramento is predicted to be 97 degrees.
The sun’s rays will be directly over the Tropic of Cancer Monday, as the astronomical summer solstice begins at 3:34 p.m. Solstices occur twice a year: when the sun reaches the highest point in the sky in the summer and when the sun is at its lowest point in sky in winter, according to the NWS.

Monday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 97. Calm wind becoming west northwest 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon.
Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 62. West wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening.
Tuesday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 100. Calm wind becoming northwest 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon.
Tuesday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 61. West wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable in the evening.
Wednesday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 98. Southwest wind around 6 mph.
Wednesday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 61.
Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 95.

Friday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 97.
