Letters: Jerry Brown has failed to explain Delta tunnels proposal

Gov. Jerry’s Brown administration has communicated poorly about the purpose of the proposed twin tunnels in the Delta. Most people opposed to the tunnels do not want increased water exports to Southern California. They also oppose the project for environmental reasons. It is my understanding that the purpose of the tunnels is not to increase the amount of water to exported, but to do it in a way that is better, environmentally, for the fish in the Delta. During construction of the tunnels there would perhaps be some environmental negatives, but ultimately the project would provide a positive environmental result for a long time. You are entitled to doubt that the environmental benefits are worth the financial cost, but remember that the environmental cost could be species extinction, which is forever.
