Re “Is Dianne Feinstein too old to run for re-election?” (sacbee.com, Jan. 8): Sen. Dianne Feinstein turns 85 in June and wants to work past 90. As human beings, our eyesight, hearing, memory, cognitive reasoning, agility and stamina do not improve with age. This is not a question of age discrimination. It is a question of having the mental ability and stamina to quickly adjust to ever changing complicated issues that affect all of us. Besides, she is very unlike Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg who turns 85 next month and has a lifetime appointment. Ginsburg hopes to outlast President Donald Trump before she retires so she will hopefully be replaced by a liberal judge. Feinstein has no worry regarding that issue because she will never be replaced by a conservative. Yes, it’s time for Feinstein to retire.
