Sacramento County is getting a new sheriff for the first time since 2010.
The race to succeed Sheriff Scott Jones, who is running for Congress, will be determined by the June 7 primary election because only two candidates are running and the one who gets the most votes will take office.
Join us as the two candidates — Elk Grove Assemblyman Jim Cooper and Undersheriff Jim Barnes, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office — discuss the issues in a live virtual debate.
The moderator of the debate was Marcos Bretón, the California Opinion Editor for McClatchy Newspapers. The candidates fielded questions from members of the Sacramento Bee Editorial Board.
Jim Barnes is Undersheriff with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.
Jim Cooper is an Elk Grove Assemblyman.
