Patty Lopez’s rise to the Assembly
Not a regular politician, thank goodness for that
Re “After electoral upset, Lopez finds herself put to the test” (Page A1, Feb 17): My goodness, what is Patty Lopez thinking? She is not beholden to any special interests. She works with people from both political parties. She wants better schools. She came to Sacramento to solve problems.
No wonder party professionals and paid political consultants want her out. She might just bring back honor, public service and effectiveness to a legislative body. I don’t think Sacramento or Washington, D.C., could handle that.

An American story
Congratulations to Patty Lopez on her election to the California Assembly. Your rise from difficult circumstances is an American story. All of us ride on the shoulders of those who fought in the Revolutionary War, those who crafted the Constitution. So please realize that every fellow citizen past and present gave you everything you needed to work hard to get to where you are.
