Can Peace Prize bring a greater peace?

Can Peace Prize bring a greater peace?

Re “Nobel Peace Prize winners are a rebuke to Islamic State” (Viewpoints, Oct. 14): Congratulations are in order to Malala Yousafzai of Pakistan and Kailash Satyarthi of India for winning the Nobel Peace Prize this year. Both recipients appear to be most deserving of this honor because they highlight the importance of education and the rights of children in both Pakistan and India.

Another issue highlighted by this award is that both countries have higher priorities to address than their rivalry since partition in 1947. The Kashmir dispute between Pakistan and India has no military solution. The pursuit of peace through negotiations is the only way out.

Through this award, the right message has been sent to more than a billion people in South Asia who have wasted scarce resources on weapons of war.

It is time for them to invest and redirect those resources on educating girls and protecting children in the region.
