Sanders, Clinton and race
Clinton fans need to support Sanders
Re “Bernie’s bid to play the victim won’t help anyone but Donald” (Insight, May 24) and “Sanders fans need to support Clinton” (Letters, May 24): Columnist Erika Smith and letter writer Eileen Glaholt are mistaken. In an average of four national polls in May, Bernie Sanders defeats Donald Trump by 10.8 percentage points. Sanders is victorious in every general election matchup.
On the other hand, Hillary Clinton loses to Trump by 0.2 percentage points, according to Real Clear Politics. Those who support Clinton because they don’t think Sanders can win have it backward. If they support Sanders, he will win the Democratic nomination and the general election.
Sanders and his supporters are not whining, they’re howling, and well they should. Those who want to avoid the travesty of a Trump presidency should support the best candidate and our only real prospect for positive change, Sanders.

Playing groups against each other
Re “Bernie’s bid to play the victim won’t help anyone but Donald” (Insight, May 24): Erika Smith writes about Bernie Sanders’ “legion of mostly white supporters.” Aren’t we over this what race are you, yet? Do we say things like “legion of mostly black/Asian/Latino supporters”? No.
I hate that groups are played against each other. It is wrong. It is bad for everyone.
