NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, in town for the Kings’ regular-season home opener, said the Golden 1 Center is the new gold standard of arenas, and the league is committed to bringing the All-Star Game to Sacramento. But the city needs to deal with a shortage of hotel rooms first, he said. Cruise ships docking at the Port of Sacramento in West Sacramento could be a solution, he said.

Raiders: Team hopes remaining in Florida helps extend road success
The Raiders will try to go 5-0 on the road for the first time since 1977 when they play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. The team’s mettle could be tested with back-to-back games in Florida, however the Raiders remained in the state to practice in nearby Bradenton.

College football: Demps, Graves to renew rivalry
Former high school quarterbacks Dano Graves and Cody Demps meet again Saturday when No. 14 Cal Poly plays at Sacramento State. Demps, a Pleasant Grove graduate, now plays wide receiver for the Hornets, while Graves, a former national prep Player of the Year out of Folsom High, leads the Mustangs’ triple option.
Sharks: Hertl scores twice in win over Blue Jackets
Tomas Hertl has two goals and Joonas Donskoi also scores to lead the San Jose Sharks to a 3-1 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets. Martin Jones stops 24 shots to help the Sharks improve to 3-0 at home.
