He allowed eight hits and four earned runs. Arizona’s A.J. Pollock had more hits (four) than the Giants (three).
Oakland and Kansas City met for the first time since their wild-card game last season, and the key word here is “wild.” When Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar was taken out by Brett Lawrie’s slide, both dugouts emptied. A’s starter Sonny Gray was roughed up, allowing 11 hits in six innings. Oakland lost 6-4.

The River Cats began their eight-game trip with a 5-3 win over Salt Lake. The Cats tied the score 3-3 with a two-run sixth and added a run in the eight and ninth. Former Jesuit High School standout Andrew Susac led the River Cats with three hits and two RBIs.
