A’s: Chavez’s first win a gem

Starter Jesse Chavez has an impressive ERA; his record has yet to reflect it. Chavez (1-2, 1.80 ERA) earned his first win of the season as the A’s beat the Minnesota Twins 2-1. Chavez lasted 71/3 innings, allowing one unearned run on four hits and one walk while striking out seven.

River Cats: Perez leads way as Sacramento wins third in a row

Juan Perez led a 13-hit attack to help the River Cats defeat the Aces 6-5 in Reno. Perez had three hits, including a three-run double in the first inning, as the River Cats improved to 15-11 with their third consecutive victory. Robert Coello recorded his fourth win of the season.

NBA Playoffs: Warriors fall, Grizzlies even series

Mike Conley returned to the lineup for the Memphis Grizzlies and led them to a 97-90 victory over the Golden State Warriors, evening the Western Conference semifinal series 1-1. The loss was the first for the Warriors at Oracle Arena in three months.

UC Davis: Football talk? Not at this dinner table

Interim UC Davis athletic director Teresa Gould oversees everything but her husband’s football team. Sure, sports talk still takes place during dinnertime, but she wants to ensure there are no conflicts of interest – in what is surely an interesting dynamic. The former Cal deputy AD is looking to re-organize the department. She hopes to hire “the most talented, mission-driven management team I can find.”
