Rookie right-hander Chris Heston’s first career complete game is a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts as the Giants win for the third time in four games with an 8-1 victory over the Houston Astros. Matt Duffy has three hits and drives in five runs for the Giants.

A’s: Glad that’s over

Josh Reddick has four hits with a homer and three RBIs and Stephen Vogt also homers to help the A’s snap a six-game losing streak with a 9-2 victory over the Boston Red Sox. The win ends Oakland’s longest losing streak since 2012.

River Cats: Can’t stay ahead in Las Vegas

The River Cats let a five-run lead vanish as the host Las Vegas 51s score eight runs in the third inning and pull away for a 12-8 victory. Hunter Pence, still on injury rehab assignment from the Giants, hits a two-run homer in the ninth inning.

NBA playoffs: Harden’s triple double powers Rockets

James Harden has 26 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists to help the Houston Rockets bounce back from two lopsided losses to avoid elimination with a 124-103 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers in the Western Conference semifinals.

    In the East, LeBron James scores 38 points as the Cleveland Cavaliers take a 3-2 series lead against the Chicago Bulls with a 106-101 win.

    49ers: Save me a place, old buddy

    Jaquiski Tartt won’t need Facebook to keep up with at least one of his old high school buddies. The 49ers safety hopeful, though still considered a raw prospect, has an opportunity to join Jimmie Ward in San Francisco’s defensive backfield. Both played at Davidson High School in Mobile, Ala.

    Republic FC: Pakistani star gets a look

    Kaleemullah Kahn, one of the most renowned soccer players from Pakistan, is in Sacramento this week trying to land a contract with Republic FC. “It’s my dream to play here,” says Kahn. “I want to be a good player here, so I thank (coach Preki) for giving me the chance.”
