Sports Night: Giants on top in N.L. West

Giants: Hudson, Posey spark S.F.

Tim Hudson pitches seven strong innings and Buster Posey delivers a two-run home run and run-scoring ground-rule double as the Giants defeat the Braves 4-2 and move a half-game in front of the Dodgers in the National League West.

A’s: Beat Yankees, again

The A’s make it two in a row over the Yankees, winning 6-2 as Stephen Vogt and Brett Lawrie each drive in two runs to support right-hander Sonny Gray, who wins his sixth game.

High school: Antelope sprinter follows speedy footsteps

Myles Ellis of Antelope upholds a family legacy and wins the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters championship 400 meters in 47.47 seconds. It’s the fastest time this season in Northern California and the third-best in the state.

High school: Madrigal leads Elk Grove past St. Mary’s

Reaching double-digit wins is a strong indicator of a special season for a high school pitcher. Elk Grove’s Ty Madrigal achieves that milestone in a 5-0 victory over St. Mary’s of Stockton in the opening game of the best-of-three Sac-Joaquin Section Division I baseball championship series at Sacramento City College.

River Cats: New place, same story

Following an unprecedented winless eight-game homestand, the River Cats start a three-game series in Colorado Springs, and the change of scenery isn’t much help in an 8-3 loss in which Sacramento commits three errors and loses its 10th game in a row.
