Sacramento Republic FC has friendly and perhaps not-so-friendly matches in its immediate future.

Republic FC will play Stanford on April 20 in a friendly at American River College and will host Reno 1868 FC in the second round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on May 15 at Papa Murphy’s Park.

Republic FC players Sam Werner and Drew Skundrich played for Stanford teams that won three consecutive NCAA championships in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

“We’re looking forward to playing against the best college program in the nation over the past five years,” Republic FC coach Simon Elliott, who also played for Stanford in 1997 and ‘98, said in a news release.

Tickets cost $5 and proceeds go to ARC’s program for the match against Stanford that starts at 4 p.m.

The match will happen two days after Major League Soccer officials announced it will expand to 30 teams and begin discussions with the Republic.

Between the matches, Republic FC has USL matches against Phoenix Rising FC on April 27 at Papa Murphy’s Park, at Las Vegas Lights FC on May 4, at Fresno FC on May 8 and at home against Reno 1868 FC on May 11.
