Kings’ Harrison Barnes donates $200,000 to victims of police brutality, gun violence
Kings forward Harrison Barnes and his wife, Brittany, are donating $200,000 during the NBA restart to aid families of people who have been victims of police brutality and gun violence, Excel Sports Management said.
Barnes will donate $25,000 for each of the eight games the Kings will play inside the NBA bubble at Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando, beginning Friday when the Kings tip off against the San Antonio Spurs. The money will go to a group of nonprofit organizations created to assist families whose loved ones have suffered from gun violence and police brutality.
Barnes, a native of Ames, Iowa, who attended North Carolina and began his NBA career with the Golden State Warriors and Dallas Mavericks, has long been known for his efforts to support the Black community. During the NBA restart, Barnes and his wife have chosen to support organizations dedicated to fighting racial injustice and police brutality.
The organizations they will support are: the Trayvon Martin Foundation; the Botham Jean Foundation; the Atatiana Project; Mothers Against Police Brutality; the Michael Brown Foundation; the Tamir Rice Foundation; the Jordan Davis Foundation; and the African American Policy Forum.
