Sports Night: Youthful energy sparks Republic FC

Republic FC: Youthful energy on its side

Gabe Gisse, 18, comes off the bench to score the difference maker for Republic FC in its 2-1 victory over OKC Energy FC. The win moves Republic FC into a first-place tie with LA Galaxy II in the USL Western Conference.

Giants: S.F. continues ‘ownage’ of Dodgers

The Giants beat the Dodgers on Saturday night 6-2 to pull within a half-game of first place in the National League West. The win was the ninth in 11 games by San Francisco, or the definition of what Giants TV analyst Mike Krukow calls “ownage.”

A’s: Hahn stifles Angels for his third win in a row

Jesse Hahn doesn’t get a complete game, or a tremendous amount of help on defense (the A’s made their majors-leading 70th error), but he’s good enough to pitch Oakland past the visiting Angels 4-1.

Side by Side: Giants’ Duffy outperforming departed Panda

When third baseman Pablo Sandoval left the Giants as a free agent and joined the Red Sox, he had some unflattering things to say about his old team – the old team he won three World Series with, that is. Awkward exits aside, Giants fans wondered how their team would replace the Panda. They weren’t counting on Max Duffy, who so far is getting the job done. The Bee’s Matt Kawahara compares the third basemen.

Nationals: Scherzer no-hits Pirates on near perfecto

Washington right-hander Max Scherzer pitches a perfect game two outs into the ninth inning, but plunks Pirates pinch-hitter Jose Tabata, who appeared to willingly take an inside pitch off of his padded left elbow. One out later, Scherzer has his no-hitter and a 6-0 win over Pittsburgh.
