Stunner in Idaho: No. 7 UC Davis falls to Idaho State

The fast start for UC Davis football hit a wall in Pocatello on Saturday afternoon.

Coming in winless and luckless through four games, the Bengals stunned the No. 7 Aggies 27-17 in a Big Sky Conference contest in Holt Arena, the first setback for UCD after its best start in 17 seasons.

Dogged by injuries all season, Idaho State (1-4, 1-2) scored on all four of its trips inside the red zone, and the Bengals stalled two UCD drives with red-zone interceptions.

The Bengals led 24-3 in the first half before the Aggies rallied. Lan Larison scored UCD’s first touchdown on a 4-yard run to open the fourth quarter, and Hunter Rodrigues pulled his team to within 27-17 with 6:51 to go on a 17-yard touchdown run.

But UCD did not get the ball back. Idaho State ran out the clock with a 13-play drive. Hunter Hays had two touchdown passes and Tyevin Ford rushed for 107 yards for Idaho State, which lost 23-21 to Sacramento State on Sept. 25.

Ulonzo Gilliam rushed for 100 yards and became the third UCD player to eclipse 3,000 yards for a career, joining Preston Jackson and G.P. Muhammad. Gilliam has 3,080 career yards.

UCD (5-1, 2-1) hosts Northern Colorado next Saturday.
