Sports Night: Kings go big in NBA draft

Kings: They take big center at No. 6

The Kings need a lot of help defensively. So they take a step toward fixing that by selecting Kentucky forward/center Willie Cauley-Stein sixth overall in Thursday’s NBA draft in New York.

Ailene Voisin: What the ...

Drafting 7-foot center Willie Cauley-Stein was a curious move by the Kings. This comes after an onslaught of speculation about the future of DeMarcus Cousins and his strained relationship with head coach George Karl.

U.S. Senior Open: Watson in front early

Free Slurpees on a brutally hot day would have been the only thing more popular than first-round leader Tom Watson in the U.S. Senior Open at Del Paso Country Club. The 65-year-old legend misses a putt to shoot his age, but his ensuing tap-in for a 4-under-par 66 gives him a one-stroke lead. A logjam at 67 included two-time U.S. Open winner Lee Janzen, Michael Allen, Jeff Hart, Jimmy Carter, P.H. Horgan III and Woody Austin.

Giants: Seeing triple in victory

You can watch a lot of baseball and not see many triples. The Giants hit four in a game for the first time in 55 years, including two by Brandon Belt, in a 13-8 win over the San Diego Padres. Brandon Crawford and Matt Duffy also tripled.

A’s: Gray has Rangers’ number

Sonny Gray wins his fifth consecutive start at Texas, Josh Reddick drives in three runs, and the A’s complete a three-game series sweep with a 6-3 victory in Arlington. Gray (9-3) strikes out seven and walks one over six innings, improving to 5-0 with a 0.96 ERA in his five road starts against the Rangers.

River Cats: Cain looks good

Matt Cain pitches 5 2/3 strong innings in possibly his last rehab start as the visiting River Cats defeat the Freno Grizzlies 7-5. The three-time All-Star, who’s coming back from an elbow injury, earned the victory after allowing two runs on four hits. He struck out four and walked two.
