Kings: Offseason changes? Bet on them
The drafting of Willie Cauley-Stein gives the team more size – and defensive help – but the plan is to try to play at a faster pace. And, Cauley-Stein aside, the Kings will need more retooling to halt a streak of nine consecutive losing seasons.
Giants: Rockies’ crooked numbers do in S.F.
Former Jesuit High School standout Andrew Susac clubs his second home run of the season to tie the score in the fifth inning, but the visiting Rockies score three more runs in the sixth on the way to an 8-6 win. Giants starter Tim Hudson allows 10 hits in 62/3 innings and five earned runs.
A’s: Royals take series opener
Alex Gordon has three hits and visiting Kansas City scores three times in the third inning on the way to a 5-2 win over the host A’s. Oakland was coming off a three-game road sweep of Texas and riding a five-game winning streak.
River Cats: Las Vegas ignores heat, wins series opener
It was 110 degrees in Las Vegas for the first of a four-game series between the 51s and the River Cats. A five-run first by Las Vegas was all the runs the 51s would need in a 6-3 victory.
