Sports Night: Kings make a deal, free up cap space

Kings: Thompson, Landry, Stauskas to 76ers

The Kings agree to trade veteran forwards Jason Thompson and Carl Landry and guard Nik Stauskas to the Philadelphia 76ers, a league source confirms, clearing more than $16 million in salary cap to pursue free agents, including veteran point guard Rajon Rondo. The trade cannot become official until July 9, when the league moratorium on deals is lifted.

Ailene Voisin: Smart move could be Rondo

The Kings’ options for signing free agents appeared stagnated by dysfunction – until Wednesday’s trade to the 76ers. The deal immediately expands their options. Obtaining guard Rajon Rondo could be a move in the right direction – for one year at the right price.

A’s: Focus on the positives

Good hitting? Check. Good starting pitching? Check. Worst record in the American League? Somehow, also a check. That’s the A’s, who despite their 4-1 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday, are last in the major leagues this season in errors, bullpen ERA and games decided by two or fewer runs.

Giants: Posey shaken up in loss

Catcher Buster Posey exits after taking a foul ball to the mask in the Giants’ 6-5 loss to the Miami Marlins. He passes concussion tests and will be re-evaluated. The Giants lose on Justin Bour’s three-run home run off Santiago Casilla in the ninth inning.
