Sports Night: Is Rondo the answer?

Kings: Pass the ball, leave selfish past behind

The Kings haven’t finished higher than 20th in assists the last nine seasons. Their latest attempt at a fix is Rajon Rondo, who agreed to a one-year, $9.5 million contract Friday. Last summer, they signed Darren Collison to a three-year deal. Can either player help the Kings cure their offensive stagnation? The Bee’s Jason Jones reports.

Voisin: Divac in a public-eye glare

Vlade Divac’s first summer in the Kings’ front office has mostly been lived without air conditioning, figuratively speaking. But the former King wanted the job, and that includes acquiring players for a team desperate for success. The Bee’s Ailene Voisin examines Divac’s decisions.

A’s: The kid bests the King

A’s starter Kendall Graveman doesn’t have a cool nickname like Seattle’s King Felix Hernandez. So what? The rookie throws seven scoreless innings and the A’s defeat the visiting Mariners 2-0 on Saturday. It was the, uh, King’s first loss in Oakland since September 2008. The Bee’s Matt Kawahara reports.

Giants: Bumgarner’s wake-up call

Madison Bumgarner isn’t a morning person – or pitcher. The Giants ace struggles again in a late-morning start, allowing a season-high six runs over five-plus innings in a 9-3 loss to the Washington Nationals. Three runs come before Bumgarner had retired a batter.

Side by side: Who’s the A.L. All-Star catcher

The Bee’s Matt Kawahara breaks down the case for the A’s Stephen Vogt and the Royals’ Salvador Perez. Guess which catcher can do a spot-on imitation of Matt Foley, your favorite guy living in a van down by the river? Hint: Not Perez.
