Sacramento Kings’ new food offerings at Golden 1 Center keep it local
Whether it be slow-cooked quesabirria tacos, barbecue chicken pizza, or meatless bulgogi beef bowls, there’s a common theme year when it comes to food at Kings games.
“Our food program is one of a kind in the country,” Kings president of business operations John Rinehart said Thursday. “We are locally sourced. Ninety percent of the food and beverage that comes through this building comes from within 150 miles of Golden 1 Center. It’s not only supporting local farms and local businesses, but it’s also really (about) our sustainability footprint.”
The focus on local ingredients has been a calling card among the concession stands at Golden 1 Center since it opened in 2016. This year, with local restaurants serving fresh favorites again, the Kings are trying to up the ante in anticipation of what could be an exciting season for the team on the court.
There are even going be doughnuts with flavors themed around the visiting opponents for a given game.
Other items of note included a fried rockfish sandwich, courtesy of local favorite Cafe Bernardo, which is also known for its cheeseburgers and garlic fries, which will be served on the south side of the arena.
Of course, a staple at Golden 1 Center will remain very much in the fold.
“We can’t forget our love for chocolate chip cookies,” head chef Brien Kuznicki said. “We can never, ever forget about those things. Probably the best things we got.”
