Kings guard Kevin Huerter missed practice Thursday with a non-COVID-19 illness and the team still isn’t sure if he will be able to play Friday against the Houston Rockets.

Huerter missed Wednesday’s 135-115 victory over the Rockets and his status remains uncertain for Friday’s rematch at at Golden 1 Center.

“He’s better, but he still has some issues,” Kings coach Mike Brown said at practice Thursday. “I don’t know. I’m not sure if he will or won’t (play) tomorrow.”

Wednesday marked Huerter’s second missed game this season after sitting out the Dec. 14 road victory over the Toronto Raptors with an ankle injury. The 6-foot-7 shooting guard is third on the team in total minutes played behind Domantas Sabonis and Harrison Barnes.

Swingman Terence Davis started in Huerter’s place on Wednesday, scoring six points on 2-of-7 shooting in 23 minutes. All of his field-goal attempts were 3-pointers. The Kings outscored the Rockets by nine points with Davis on the floor.

Huerter is averaging a career-high 15.8 points per game in his first season with Sacramento. He’s having the best shooting season of his five-year career, hitting career marks of 42% from 3-point range and 48.2% from the floor.

Among players to average at least seven 3-point attempts per game, Huerter is third in percentage behind Stephen Curry (42.9) and former Kings guard Buddy Hield (42.7).
