Fans react to the Raiders agreeing to a deal with Jimmy G. ‘Best option available?’
The Las Vegas Raiders found a replacement for Derek Carr in Jimmy Garoppolo, agreeing Monday to a three-year deal with the veteran quarterback, according to reports.
Garoppolo reunites with Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels after playing for him in New England from 2014-2016.
Fan reaction was a bit tepid; even many of those who approved did so grudgingly given the lack of great options.
The Raiders benched Carr for the final two games of the 2022 NFL season because his contract would have been guaranteed if he suffered a significant injury.
Jarrett Stidham got those starts and nearly beat the 49ers before also losing to the Chiefs. Stidham is no longer an option in Las Vegas; he is headed to the Denver Broncos after agreeing to his own free-agent deal.
Here is a sampling of what NFL fans including Raider Nation are posting on social media following news of the Raiders-Garoppolo pairing:
The Bee posed a question to Raider Nation if they think Jimmy G is a good short-term fix for the Raiders after agreeing to a deal that’s worth $67.5 million deal, including $34 million guaranteed, according to ESPN.
Garoppolo spent the past six seasons with the 49ers, for whom he completed 1,104 of 1,632 passes for 13,599 yards with 82 touchdowns against 42 touchdowns.
Garoppolo is 40-17 as the starter, including going 38-17 with the 49ers, but injury history is a corner as he missed many games because of various injuries.
