These popular Lake Tahoe ski resorts have delayed open to season due to warm conditions
Two of Lake Tahoe’s most popular ski resorts won’t be opening this weekend as planned.
Heavenly and Northstar, which are both part of the Vail Resorts network covered by the Epic Pass, have pushed back their season-opening date from Friday because of warm conditions in the Lake Tahoe area. Their opening date has not been determined and is dependent on temperatures cooling.
“We are monitoring the weather minute-by-minute, and our expert snowmaking teams are ready to make snow at every possible opportunity so that we can open for the 2023/24 ski and ride season the moment we’re able to,” Ashlee Lambert, senior communications manager for the resorts, wrote in an e-mail. “Until then, we’ll continue to provide updates on the outlook and will share a new planned opening date as soon as possible.”
The temperature highs in Lake Tahoe this weekend are expected to be in the high-40s and low-50s, far above freezing, which would allow snow to stick on the mountains. Kirkwood, also part of Vail and the Epic Pass program, is tentatively scheduled to open Dec. 1 as long as conditions allow, according to Lambert.
