The Scorecard: Super Bowl LVIII - the Chiefs, the Niners, Taylor Swift & all the commercials

Grab your friendship bracelets, and the best buffalo chicken dip recipe you can find. It’s Super Bowl weekend. The Scorecard: Super Bowl LVIII edition has the biggest stories and headlines for the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers ahead of football’s biggest weekend.

The Kansas City Chiefs look to cement their legacy.

Kansas City is no stranger to the spotlight that comes with the Super Bowl. In fact, after four appearances and two wins, one could say that the Chiefs thrive in this spotlight. A win in 2024 wouldn’t just cement the team’s dynasty in the NFL, it would make them the first team to win back-to-back Super Bowl trophies in nearly 20 years.

Is it just me, or has this season just been more fun? The season-opening loss, the uncertainty throughout the season, the Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce romance…I’m by no means a Chiefs fan, but I haven’t found myself rooting against them like I did against the New England Patriots and their constant Super Bowl appearances.

I also probably sit in a smaller population of football fans who haven’t found a reason to hate Patrick Mahomes. The guy jokes about his ‘dad bod’ and he hears all the jokes about sounding like Kermit Frog, but there’s no denying that he’s just that guy for the Chiefs, and if they beat the 49ers on Sunday, he’s a huge reason why.

Not Taylor Swift. Although, I can’t tell you how thrilled I am that she’s expected to make the trip from her Eras Tour stop in Tokyo. And I wish Travis Kelce had given us more reason to hope for a proposal.

The San Francisco 49ers are looking for revenge.

Super Bowl LVIII is a rematch of Super Bowl LIV, when the Chiefs defeated the 49ers 31-20. So, there’s a little old tension on the field. And despite the success the Chiefs have had, the Niners are not the underdog and they’re actually favored by two points.

And no doubt, they’re stacked. Running back Christian McCaffrey, tight end George Kittle, defensive lineman Nick Bosa…and of course, 24-year-old quarterback Brock Purdy. The 49ers were the only team in the NFL that were favored to win every single one of their games this season.

The 49ers have been practicing at UNLV, and reportedly, they haven’t been too happy with the field, and now they’re casting suspicions on a middle-of-the-night fire alarm at their Vegas hotel. I’m not gonna call them excuses, but….

If you’re new here, I am, unfortunately, a devout Dallas Cowboys fan, and that might have a lot to do with my doubts about the 49ers. It doesn’t help that their fans somehow felt the need to shade the Cowboys during Super Bowl week? But, my reasons don’t matter, I’m just going to jump on that Chiefs bandwagon and enjoy the ride.

Fire up the grill, break out the tailgate recipes, and settle on the couch with all your favorite Super Bowl snack foods.

Are you a spinach-artichoke dip fan, or is buffalo chicken dip more up your alley?

Maybe neither? Maybe, you’re more classic with a queso. This simple queso recipe is a surefire winner.

My go-to comfort food for all things is nachos. Try a fun, lighter spin on the Mexican snack with crab meat-based recipe.
