The Scorecard: The road to the Final Four starts with the First Four.
The journey to cutting down nets starts today.
The First Four opener takes place tonight in Dayton, Ohio, where Wagner and Howard will face off. The two are the lowest-ranked pair in the field of 68, coming in at No. 16, and if they’re on a Cinderella path, it crosses No. 1 seed North Carolina next.
It’s a long path for any team to make the Final Four from the First Four, but it’s not unheard of. Something that No. 10 seeds Virginia and Colorado State are reminding their teams of as they prepare for the second matchup in Dayton. The most interesting, to me, is picking against Kansas in the first round. The Jayhawks haven’t lost in the first round since 2006.
