The A’s are in limbo, passing through Sacramento (well, West Sacramento) en route to Las Vegas. We all know now what that means — they play in our minor league park, they share it with the River Cats, the Giant’s triple-A team, and they don’t want to be called the “Sacramento A’s.” OK, fine. But it also means they, and we, miss out on some Major League fun.

MLB teams unveiled their new City Connect uniforms in April, continuing what is now a tradition in sports marketing, providing alternative looks that in some way capture the spirit of the home team’s city. But two teams do not have them. The New York Yankees don’t fool around with their fabled pinstripes. And the poor A’s — MLB and the Athletics have cast them aside and pretend they have no city in the present.

But, c’mon. They do. They’re here. So we’re not here to perpetuate the pretense that they play in a park with no city. We did what the team and league have not. They’re still the A’s, and the current name, worn in our town, is what we have to spur our imaginations. We asked Google’s AI to conjure what those uniforms, with various themes, would look like. We want to share the concepts with you for fun and let you vote on which of the eight you think is the best.
