At last: Sacramento-themed Air Jordan sneaker to return to store shelves after 30 years
A highly anticipated Sacramento-themed sneaker with throwback vibes and a nod to a Sacramento Kings legend will hit shelves this December — an old-school gift for long-suffering Kings fans.
The all-black Jordan Brand Air Jordan 10 OG “Sacramento” is set to release Dec. 5 with a retail price of $215.
The Sacramento shoe’s first retro release is generating buzz among sneakerheads. The shoe debuted in 1995 and has not been re-released — until now.
“For a lot of people, this is pretty big news, said Brian Betschart, the Sacramento-based founder and editor-in-chief of the online magazine Sneaker Files, on his recent webcast. “A lot of people have been asking for these to drop throughout the years.”
Online reviewer Inbox to Go has already bestowed “holy grail” status on the new release, calling news of the December launch “easily one of the biggest Jordan announcements in years. The Sacramento 10 has always been one of the rarest and most sought-after editions, making this retro a dream for collectors.”
The only all-black entry in the Jordan “1995 City Pack,” which also includes New York, Orlando, Seattle and Chicago, the style pays tribute to Kings star Mitch Richmond.
Before the Beam Team, before Chris Webber, Peja Stojakovic and Mike Bibby, the prolific, but often overlooked Richmond, a six-time All-Star in the 1990s, was the face and heart of the Sacramento franchise. Sacramento made the City Pack cut because the Kings star was also known to wear Air Jordan 10s, said Athlon Sports’ Brian Mazique, who wrote this week of the Sacramento sneaker news.
Mazique said the shoes will be available at retailers including Nike SNKRS, DTLR and Shiekh.
