College women's basketball: Hartnell's Henson commits to Menlo
A decision to seek a new opportunity has opened another door in Mia Henson’s collegiate basketball career.
Henson, who gave up a spot on UC Merced’s basketball team for playing time at Hartnell College, has committed to play next season at Menlo College in Atherton.
The Coast Conference South’s Most Valuable Player last year, the 5-foot-10 Henson rediscovered her game for the Panthers, after scoring 453 points in 28 games, averaging just under 17 points in 26 minutes a night on the hardwood.
The former Monterey High multi-sport standout shot a team-high 45.8 percent from the field, while pulling down 6.9 rebounds, and collecting 108 assists and 61 steals in helping Hartnell reach the postseason.
Henson is moonlighting this spring, playing softball for the first time in two years for the Panthers, who are currently 28-7. She is hitting .412 with nearly half of her hits going for extra bases.
