LeBron James Issues Defiant Statement After Lakers' Game 2 Win

Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James has never allowed complacency to creep into his playoff runs.

The 41-year-old powered the Lakers past the Houston Rockets, 101-94, Tuesday night at Crypto.com Arena. Los Angeles now holds a commanding 2-0 series lead in their Western Conference first-round match-up

James stuffed the stat sheet with 28 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in 39 minutes.

He impacted both ends of the floor, directing the offense while delivering crucial defensive stops in the fourth quarter. James and Marcus Smart blanketed Kevin Durant, limiting him to just two shots in the second half.

Despite taking control of the series, James insisted the job is not done.

James has never lost a playoff series after going up 2-0 in 23 NBA seasons. His record stands at a staggering 32-0 in that situation.

When reporters asked about defending home court after the game, James was nonchalant. His answer was as defiant as it was brief.

"It means nothing...our only mindset is Game 3," he said.

The Lakers came out on fire from the opening tip. James, Smart and Luke Kennard combined for 30 points on 11-of-16 shooting in the first quarter. Smart finished with 25 points, seven assists and five steals. He shot 8-of-13 from the field and 5-of-7 from three. Kennard added 23 points, six rebounds and three steals.

Under James' guidance, the injury-plagued Lakers never took their foot off the gas. The biggest factor, however, was how the Lakers' defense suffocated Durant in the second half.

The Rockets' superstar returned from a right knee bruise that kept him out of Game 1. Durant looked dangerous early, posting 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting in the first half.

James and Smart's defense proved to be the game-changer. The two veterans limited Durant to just two shots in the second half.

Game 3 shifts to Houston on Friday at Toyota Center.
