Softball playoffs roundup: Mater Dei, Mission Viejo, CVC muscle to quarterfinal wins

Tulutululelei Salue went 4 for 5 with a home run and three RBIs to lead Mater Dei’s softball team past host Vista Murrieta 12-8 in the CIF-SS Division 2 quarterfinals Wednesday.
Danica Lancellotti added three hits, including a home run, for the No. 2 seeded Monarchs (18-11).
Rose Brown also collected three hits for Mater Dei and Savanah Duncan added a home run.
Citlaly Valencia pitched 5 1/3 innings in teaming with Nevaeh Sanchez in the circle
In the semifinals on Saturday, Mater Dei will play host to San Clemente at Fountain Valley Sports Park. San Clemente beat Huntington Beach 9-7 in another quarterfinal.
Salue, a sophomore first baseman, is hitting .476 and leads the Monarchs with 11 home runs.

In Division 4:
Mission Viejo 14, Oak Hills 6: Mars Ruvalcaba went 2 for 4 with a home run and Brooke Neale went 2 for 3 with a triple to lead the visiting Diablos (16-15). Mission Viejo plays host to Burroughs of Burbank in the semifinals Saturday.
In Division 5:
Northwood 5, Santa Monica 4: Katerinna Rizos hit a home run and drove in three runs, Marissa Lee had three hits and Natalie Keith added two hits to lead the host Timberwolves (13-7-1). Second-seeded Northwood plays host to Covina in the semifinals Saturday.
In Division 6:
Irvine 18, Heritage of Menifee 7: Harper Vandermolen and Shelley Qi each hit grand slams to lead the top-seeded Vaqueros (14-16). Irvine has scored 38 runs in three playoffs games. In the semifinals, the Vaqueros will play host to Granite Hills on Saturday. Granite Hills has scored 61 runs in the playoffs, including 32 in the first round at Big Bear.
In Division 8:
Capistrano Valley Christian 13, Bell Gardens 6: Freshman catcher Kelly Whitson went 3 for 4 with a double, triple and four RBIs and sophomore McKenzie Meserve pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts to lead the Eagles (8-13) at the Great Park. CVC plays the winner of Thursday’s Banning-Arroyo Valley game in the semifinals Saturday.
