Comedian Matt Rife Ripped For Behavior At Drake Maye's Charity Softball Game
Comedian Matt Rife is under fire for his behavior at Drake Maye's celebrity charity softball game on Sunday night.
The inaugural MayeDay Family Foundation Celebrity Softball Classic was held on Sunday night. The game, which featured several Patriots players and celebrities, was held at Polar Park, home of the Triple-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, the Worcester Red Sox. More than 9,000 fans were in attendance.
Drake Maye and his wife, Anne Michael, presented an $80,000 check to Boston Children's Hospital before the game. The couple also donated $1,000 for each derby home run and $2,500 for each game homer. In total, another $94,000 was donated.
"Everyone has been so kind to us," Ann Michael Maye said. "We've been received so well and grown to love this place in a short amount of time. To see such a great turnout and how our idea, on a whim, kind of turned into something so cool is awesome."
But one of the game's participants, Matt Rife, nearly caused a disaster.
Rife, who lives in the New England area, got in a rundown. As he attempted to make his way to second base, he dove and took out the knees of Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson. Thankfully, injury was avoided.
Still, Patriots fans are not happy with Rife. This was a charity softball game, after all. Why are you diving at a player's knees?
Fans rip Rife for nearly causing an injury
NFL fans are not happy.
"I know you are new to being a pats fan so let me teach you something about Boston fans. Don't (mess) with our teams athletes. You almost became the most hated guy in a region," one fan wrote to Rife.
"I would have absolutely lost it if that clown hurt mondre," one fan added.
"That wasn't funny. No wonder I never heard of him..." one fan added.
"Is this really necessary?? Isn't there a safer way to raise money?" another fan added.
"I hope he's banned from all Boston clubs forever," one fan added.
Rife surely didn't mean to potentially injure the Patriots running back, but maybe that's why we shouldn't be having celebrities and athletes playing in an offseason game together.
