Packers Super Bowl Winner Says ‘No Comparison' if Son Wins World Cup
The 2026 FIFAWorld Cup will take the spotlight in the coming weeks, with 48 teams competing at venues in the United States, Mexico, and Canada to crown the 2026 winner.
The US Men’s National Team will receive plenty of fan support, including Antonio Freeman, who won a Super Bowl alongside Brett Favre with the Green Bay Packers. Freeman has added interest in watching the team compete for the World Cup title because his son, Alex Freeman, is on the roster.
Ahead of next week’s first games on the schedule, the former Packers star spoke about how his son winning the World Cup with the USMNT would compare to him winning a Super Bowl ring.
“It’s no comparison. I mean, and to be honest, to reach the platform that he’s reached, my Super Bowl was very special, but there’s still no comparison to where he is right now as a 21-year-old, you know, picked and selected as one of the 26 best in the United States of America to represent your team, something I never got a chance to do. So he’s among another echelon of elite and him by far,” Freeman told TMZ.

Antonio Freeman spent nine years in the league, including eight seasons with Green Bay. He was part of the team, led by Favre, that defeated the New England Patriots 35-21 in Super Bowl XXXI. Freeman, a wide receiver, caught what was then considered a record 81-yard touchdown pass thrown by Favre.
While he never achieved Pro Football Hall of Fame status, he led the league in receiving yards, made First Team All-Pro, and received a Pro Bowl selection in 1998. Freeman is in the Packers Hall of Fame after a career that included 7,251 receiving yards and 61 touchdowns.
His 21-year-old son, Alex, is currently among the defenders on the USMNT, which played a friendly against fellow World Cup contender Germany on Saturday at Soldier Field in Chicago, well known as home of the NFL‘s Chicago Bears, a fierce rival of Freeman’s Packers.
Despite a highlight goal from the USMNT’s Antonee Robinson, Germany’s Leroy Sane and Kai Havertz each scored for the opponents in a 2-1 win. By most accounts, the USMNT still performed well in a friendly match that served as a warm-up ahead of the World Cup.

Germany is a team that Freeman’s squad won’t play in the Group Stage, which begins next week, but could face if both advance from their groups to reach the final 16 teams.
And while the USMNT’s Group D looks like one they should be able to advance from, that’s never a given. From there, they’d likely have to defeat some talented international squads even to have a chance at winning the World Cup.
Sportsbooks list the USMNT around 14th in the odds to win the tournament, with Spain, France, and England the top three favorites.
The USMNT opens group play with a match against Paraguay at 9 p.m. ET on Friday, June 12.
